When the affected muscles or joints are under pressure, it causes inflammation of the tendon, which reduces blood flow and can lead to nerve compression. If there is mild inflammation, it is referred to as tendinitis of the shoulder joint. Degeneration of the tendon is called tendinosis of the shoulder joint. The tendon of the supraspinatus muscle in the shoulder joint is the most commonly damaged tendon. Recovery from an injury to this tendon is more lengthy because the rotator cuff tendon is usually affected.<\/p>\n<h2>How a Doctor Diagnoses Shoulder Tendinopathy<\/h2>\n<p>An orthopedic examination is usually sufficient to determine tendinopathy of the shoulder joint and the severity of the disease. However, in some cases, the doctor may recommend an ultrasound scan of the shoulder joint or an MRI scan of the shoulder.<\/p>\n<p>Treatment for shoulder tendinopathy is usually conservative and includes rest and anti-inflammatory medications, depending on the severity of the injury. Treatments are also sometimes prescribed:<\/p>\n<p>In severe cases of inflammation, surgery may be prescribed.
