Healthy kidneys filter creatinine from the blood. It is then excreted from the body in urine.<\/p>\n<p>The kidneys maintain blood creatinine levels within normal limits. Elevated creatinine levels indicate dysfunction or disease in these organs.<\/p>\n<p>When the kidneys are diseased, the level of creatinine in the blood increases because the kidneys do not excrete it adequately. Therefore, abnormally high creatinine levels warn of possible kidney dysfunction or kidney failure.
