When they hear the diagnosis 'osteoarthritis' or 'arthritis', many people don't know what they are talking about and mistakenly think that the disease affects bones, ligaments or tendons. What types of joints are there and which are particularly susceptible to degenerative changes?

Joints are responsible for the smooth movement of bones

What is a joint?

Joints can transmit enormous forces - up to hundreds of kilograms. They are flexible joints. Their structure consists of cartilage surrounded by a special protective capsule of synovial fluid. The latter reduces friction during movement and prevents abrasion of the cartilage surface.

The joints that are in the moving parts of the skeleton are called diarthrosis (real joints). The thickness of the cartilage in them can vary from 0.2 to 6 mm, depending on the intensity of movement. Darthroses can be simple (consisting of two articular surfaces) or complex (consisting of several).

joint stiffness

Joints can be likened to hinges, which allow bones to move smoothly relative to one another. The degree of mobility of a joint depends on many factors. The structure of a joint is not simple; even the slightest damage to one of its components leads to problems. Statistically, 6 out of 10 people with joint pain complain of back pain, followed by people with knee and hand problems, and third is hip and foot deformities. Shoulder and elbow pain is less common. Joint diseases are the specialty of arthrology.

Joint problems are a common ailment. There are few people over 30 whose joints are completely healthy. Why this is the case is not yet entirely clear. However, it is known that the number of affected joints increases with age. The joints wear out, especially at the attachment points. The cartilage wears away and the bones rub against each other, leading to severe pain and arthritis. This is not only painful, but also dangerous.

On the other hand, most people suffer broken bones, dislocations, accidents or sports injuries in the course of their lives. In addition, heredity, lack of exercise, infection, and even tight shoes can affect the health of the joint. But no matter what happened to the joint, whether it is osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, gout or a torn meniscus, a fracture or a congenital disease: Thanks to the enormous advances in medicine, doctors can now help in many cases. People even get relief from their pain by replacing the damaged joint with an artificial one.

In this section you will learn a lot about joints, the most common joint problems, modern methods of treatment and measures to prevent various types of joint diseases. You will learn whether putting stress on your joints is good for you and which sports you should prefer, which foods are good for your joints and which ones you should avoid. You will receive proven recommendations based on the latest scientific knowledge.

CONTACT

For comprehensive information on the treatment and prevention of orthopedic, rheumatological or neurological diseases, please contact us:

Tel. +7(495)120-46-92
Email: info@euromed.academy
feedback form
Send us a message on Telegram
Contact us on WhatsApp

Our address is 11 Trifonovskaya St., Moscow

Das stärkste Gelenk im menschlichen Körper ist das Hüftgelenk Welche Arten von Gelenken gibt es?
